Vote On Which Map Makes It In The Gears Of War 3 Beta

The Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta is coming out this April, and the content will include three brand new maps. Two maps are confirmed — Thrashball and Checkout. Thrashball is a sport stadium and is based on the sport Cole played before the Locust invasion. Checkout is a supermarket-based environment, and is a super close quarters map.

The third map that will be in the Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta is up to you to decide over on the Gears of War Facebook fan page. The four other maps you can choose from are Mercy, Old Town, Trenches and Overpass, all of which are shown off in the gallery.

Of the four maps, I really dug Overpass if only for the visual change that takes place. As the round goes on, the area is actually sinking underground and water starts filling the streets. The more I think about it though, I really liked Trenches as a sandstorm takes place and makes visibility almost impossible for a few minutes. Old Town is also neat if only for the pumpkins that explode when you shoot them and there are chickens too, a first for Gears of War. Mercy can suck it.

Halo Reach Defiant Map Pack Out On March 15

We knew the new map pack for Halo: Reach was coming in March, but now we know it’s coming out for sure on March 15. Hey, that’s one day right before Destructoid’s birthday! The “Defiant Map Pack” will include two new versus maps (Condemned and Highlands) and one Firefight map (Unearthed.) It’s important to note that Bungie had no hands in making these new maps and all credit goes to Certain Affinity and 343 Industries.

I got to try out Condemned and Unearthed earlier tonight and I really dug the Condemned map. It’s set in an orbital space station overlooking the planet Reach as it’s getting glassed by the Covenant. The visuals of the planet and everything going on out in space look so good that I’m pretty sure everyone will get assassinated at least once because they’re too mesmerized by beautiful scene.

I also got to run around on Unearthed and it reminded me a lot of the Lost Platoon Firefight map from Halo 3: ODST. That’s a good thing especially since I miss playing on a lot of those old Firefight maps.

Are the map packs worth it? If you’ve been dying for a reason to get back into Halo: Reach, then totally. The DLC goes for 800 MS Points and adds 150 new Achievement points. If you’re on the fence or already have moved on, then there’s no much for you here.

Gears Of War 3 Hits Worldwide On September 20

Soldier up and get ready to kill some Locust, Gears of War 3 is shipping on September 20 worldwide. That’s a Tuesday, so plan your personal and vacation time accordingly.

The multiplayer beta for the game is scheduled to start soon-ish, and we’ll have more details on that in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.

Marvel vs Capcom 3 DLC Costumes Revealed

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 may have been released this week, but that does not mean I have to stop writing news about it!

Capcom have announced the first “Alternate Costume Pack” DLC for the brand new brawler. The “Alternate Costume Pack” will be available March 1st for 400 MSP. March 1st is the also the day that the first pack of Shadow Mode DLC will be available.

The first “Alternate Costume Pack” features new outfits for Captain America, Iron Man and Thor on the Marvel side. Ryu, Chris and Dante get new duds on the Capcom side. Throwback costumes seem to be the theme, as we are getting the following costumes:

- “Secret Avengers” Captain America (with triangle shield!)
- Classic Thor
- “Iron Patriot” Iron Man (Okay, this one isn’t a throwback, that’s Norman “Green Goblin” Osborne in the armor and not Tony Stark)

- Street Fighter 1 Ryu
- Resident Evil 1 Chris Redfield
- “Sparda” Dante (Dante’s Daddy)

All of these costumes can be yours for only 400 MSP on March 1st.

If the graphics and setting remind you of another action-RPG by Gearbox (Borderlandsanyone?), that is because Demiurge Studios, the developer behind Shoot Many Robots, were asked to lend their expertise in the creation of Borderlands.

Shoot Many Robots will be coming to XBLA in 2011. A price is yet to be confirmed.
